I am writing this article to share my thoughts about reality. There is a long-standing debate over whether reality is fixed and predetermined or shaped by our free will. I have moved back and forth between these views: at times believing that fate is predetermined and that we are simply along for the ride, and at other times believing that we should not accept our current circumstances without question. Someone once told me to be natural, let things happen, and not worry about what I cannot control. I disagreed and wrote a long response arguing that we can reject our current situation and take deliberate steps to change our reality. But my argument was not convincing, and we ended up leaning toward the idea of going with the flow and letting things unfold. Then things changed, and I found myself caught in a series of dreams about alternative realities. Each night, I dream of a different reality shaped by a different set of actions. This has led me to wonder how quantum physics might explain these experiences.
Quantum physics suggests that reality is fundamentally non-deterministic, interconnected, and interactive. Instead of describing a universe made of solid, predictable objects, it reveals a world shaped by probabilities, where properties do not fully exist apart from observation or interaction. In classical physics, the world exists objectively outside us. In quantum mechanics, particles can exist in superposition—multiple possible states at once—represented by a mathematical wave function. When measurement occurs, that wave function appears to collapse into one physical reality. The central philosophical question is what causes this collapse. One view is that physical world it itself made of quantum atoms, so they too may exist in superposition. From this perspective, only consciousness can break the chain and bring nature into a definite state. The implication is that matter does not create consciousness; consciousness gives form to matter. Without conscious observers, the universe would remain a haze of mathematical possibilities. In my dreams, the universe feels as though it exists in superposition, with all possibilities present at once. Each night, a new dream takes shape and collapses into a different reality. I also sense a kind of entanglement between us, as if we are so deeply connected that the state of one affects the state of the other, regardless of distance. I wonder whether my dreams have become hers, or hers have become mine. Each night, I lie awake, restless, waiting to see what new realities might emerge.
I have come to see reality as neither purely predetermined nor entirely governed by free will. It may be shaped by what consciousness, imagination, and the heart are able to create. For that reason, I refuse to let either passive acceptance or rigid ideas about free will define my reality. My recent experiences have taught me that reality can become what the imagination envisions and what the heart believes is possible. Follow your heart and never let anyone else stop you.
